Skip Guss’ GolfRite Academy, Southborough Golf Practice & Learning Center, Southborough, MA
Skip is the owner of Skip Guss’ GolfRite Academy, a year-round golf learning facility located in Southborough, MA, about 30 miles west of Boston. A former PGA Tour player, Skip has given more than 32,000 golf lessons over his 32-year coaching career, with students ranging from beginners to former LPGA, PGA Tour and Champions Tour winners, and even a U.S. Amateur champion. Skip also served as the head coach of the Holy Cross women’s golf team for two seasons.
The 2014 New England PGA Teacher of the Year, Skip was voted by his peers as the No. 5 instructor in the state of Massachusetts in Golf Digest’s 2013-’14 Best Teachers in Your State rankings. An accomplished player, Skip has won as many as 30 individual tournaments during his professional playing career, including the 2005 Rhode Island Senior Open. That same year, he was a qualifying medalist for the 2005 U.S. Senior Open at NCR Country Club in Kettering, OH. After spending two years at Arizona State University, Skip played on the mini-tours, including the New Zealand Tour, before qualifying to play on the PGA Tour for one season (1977-’78), earning one top-25 finish.
During his career, Skip had the privilege of being personally instructed by such playing and coaching legends of the game as Sam Snead, Jack Grout (Jack Nicklaus’ lifelong coach), Bob Toski, and Peter Kostis. His special areas of interest include the full swing, short game, mental training (Skip is a Certified GolfPsych Instructor), course strategy, and practice routines.
